It is interesting how nature has all these awesome goodness in store for us to explore.
Plants, seeds, roots, herbs, spices, nuts are sources of healthy foods we often do not pay attention to when it comes to our diet. I will be sharing two different delicious ways to refresh yourself with hibiscus flower drink popularly called Zobo in Nigeria.
Zobo drink is produced from Roselle leaves (Hibiscus). These dried hibiscus flowers can be made into hot tea or cold refreshing drinks.
Hibiscus benefits the skin in many ways, the natural acid in this flowers help purify the skin by breaking down dead skin and increases cell turnover. It is also known to have anti-aging properties as it maintains elastin levels that naturally declines with age hence keeps the skin looking younger, fresher and smoother. It may also help treat skin ailments, may control acne breakouts, may speed up wound healing.
Hibiscus is also beneficial to the hair, the water strained from the boiled hibiscus flower can be use to rinse hair which moisturises and rejuvenates dry hair, reduces dandruff, helps treat baldness, stimulate hair growth and keeps the hair healthier.
Amongst its many benefits as a rich source of antioxidants is it ability to fight against diseases such as cancer, lower cholesterol levels and help with weight loss.
It can also be applied directly on the skin as a gentle exfoliator on the face and neck.
Below are two recipes, the first with pineapple and the second with orange.
Recipes
Tea
In a pot of water add a few dried hibiscus flowers, leave it to boil for about 15min.
Serve with with a squeeze of lemon juice or a slice of lemon.
Zobo 1
Ingredients
Dried Hibiscus flowers
Water
Pineapple
Ginger
Ice cubes
Direction
On a medium heat, in a pot pour some water, add dried hibiscus flowers, ginger and pineapple rind. Boil for 25-30min, sieve and leave it to cool off, add fresh pineapple juice and stir, serve with some ice, preferably crushed ice, amazing!

Ingredients
Dried Hibiscus flowers
Water
Oranges
Lemons
Ginger
Ice cubes
Direction
On a medium heat, in a pot pour water, add dried hibiscus flowers, ginger, orange slices, lemon slices. Boil for 25-30min, sieve and leave to cool off. Add some fresh orange juice and ice cubes or crushed ice.
